Deluxe 1717 Launches Weekend Brunch and Expands Dinner Hours

Have you been to Deluxe 1717? Nestled in the heart of Pasadena, Deluxe 1717 is known to locals for its warm ambiance and mouthwatering dishes. Helmed by longtime chef and caterer Onil Chibás, Deluxe 1717 isn’t your average restaurant. Chef Chibás and his chef-collaborator Alberto Morales have curated an eclectic menu highlighting their diverse heritages. Chibás is Afro-Cuban, Morales is Bolivian, and the pastry chef, Cherry Aguilar, is Filipina. The vibrant menu deliciously reflects this multicultural mix. Deluxe 1717 recently launched a delicious weekend brunch menu, and expanded the dinner hours.

Chef Chibás is excited to announce the launch of weekend brunch. “We really want our guests to experience our expanded menu. Of course, many of our customers know what they want before they arrive,” notes Chibás, “and we certainly want them to have their favorites.” As a self-proclaimed brunch connoisseur, I’ve had my fair share of brunches. But there’s something different about the brunch at Deluxe 1717. The menu is so unique and features an array of flavorful dishes. I started with the zesty and colorful Sous Vide Beet & Orange Salad. Next came the Fried Shrimp Po’Boy that was so good I almost cried after my first bite. I then moved on to the Vegetarian Sopes, which were so packed with flavor that vegetarians and meat eaters alike will applaud them. As a pescatarian, I didn’t try the meat options, but my friend had the Brisket Huevos Rancheros and the fan-favorite Cuban Sandwich with house-smoked pork belly. The look of pure delight that came across his face as he sunk his teeth into both items, was all I needed to see, to know he was in love with his food. And no brunch would be complete without sweets! The Giant Cinnamon Roll gave me LIFE, and the German Chocolate Pancakes… let’s just say they’re even better than they sound! Make sure to complement your brunch with a glass of Wine or a Mimosa!

According to Chef Onil Chibás, the German Chocolate Pancakes are one of the most popular brunch dishes. And yes, they are absolutely delicious!

Dinner hours have been expanded from Thursdays – Saturdays, and offer, a broad range of ever-evolving savory starters and mains, based on seasonally available ingredients. Highlights include the yummy Philipino Lumpia (egg rolls with sweet chili and Vietnamese dipping sauce); melt on your tongue Burrata, paired with balsamic roasted figs, and topped with pecans and rosemary honey; and Shrimp Tacos Al Pastor (a sweet and savory blend of shrimp, grilled pineapple, salsa verde, cabbage salad, pickled red onion and oaxcan crema). Dessert lovers can indulge in decadent sweets like the Cherry & Almond Bisteeya (chocolate cremeux, peach & ginger jam, whipped cream), Luvvie’s Delights Original Cookies (oatmeal, walnuts, chocolate chips), and my personal favorite, the Pear Frangipane Tart. A small but thoughtfully curated wine and beer menu is also available. Hungry yet? $18+; Thursdays – Saturdays, 5 – 10:00 pm, and Saturdays – Sundays, 10:00 am – 2:30 pm (brunch); 1717 E.
