Red Bull Music Academy Festival

James Beard Foundation’s Taste America
The national epicurean tour kicks off in Los Angeles with a weekend-long celebration that includes A Night of Culinary Stars with special guest All-Star Chef Barbara Lynch on Friday, which features some of L.A.’s best chefs coming together to cook for on a seated dinner preceded by a cocktail and tasting reception at Vibiana downtown. Vegan Chili Cook Off
Nationally celebrated vegan guru Chef Tal Ronnen will head up the judging panel as five teams of multi-talented chefs compete in the 5th Annual Vegan Chili Cook Off at Tony’s Darts Away in Burbank. Joining Chef Ronnen at the judging table is Ryan Ritchie, digital editor of the vegan lifestyle magazine VegNews, and Chef Caroline Concha 2015 Cook Off winner and two-time winner of “Best Chef in Burbank”. Los Angeles Paella Wine & Beer Festival

The Filipino American Heritage Movement of LA Launches LA’s 1st Filipino Festival, EAT. PLAY. MOVE.
The Filipino American Heritage Movement of Los Angeles (FAHMLA), a non- profit organization that celebrates Filipino heritage in Los Angeles has partnered with the Santa Maria Group (SMG) a government relations and business consulting firm, Rayson Media, a digital marketing company and Top Food News, the largest grouping of food social media accounts in the United States to create EAT. PLAY. MOVE. The festival kicks off Filipino Heritage Month! With 375,000 Filipinos in Los Angeles, it is the largest Filipino community outside of the Philippines. The EAT. portion of the three-tier festival will showcase 20 food vendors, ranging from traditional to innovative Filipino merchants as well as other popular Asian fare. Top purveyors include Bolo, Ninong’s, Lipsense, Chow King, Johnny Pacific, and White Rabbit to name a few. PLAY. will consist of top musical performances by a variety of Filipino talent. Feastown at Eastown

Taix French Restaurant Celebrates 90th Anniversary with 90 Cent Roast Chicken Dinner
The menu for the evening’s anniversary hours will be limited to soup de jour, salad and the “Taix” Roast Chicken with au jus—a classic French country chicken dinner introduced by Marius Taix Jr. in 1927. The Taix Family is the third and fourth generation of sheepherders and bakers from the “Hautes-Alpes” in southeastern France that moved to Los Angeles around 1870. In 1912 Marius Taix Sr. built a hotel called the Champ d’Or on 321 Commercial Street in DTLA, and included a hotel restaurant subleased to a tenant, which was let go to the Taix’s when the restaurant was forbidden to serve alcohol during the prohibition period. In 1927, Marius Taix Jr. opened Les Freres Taix French restaurant within the hotel, serving chicken dinners for 50 cents at long “family-style” tables. Diners could choose private booth service for an extra quarter. In 1962, the present location, located on Sunset Boulevard, opened and was owned and operated by Raymond and Pierre Taix, sons of Marius Taix Jr., and uncles John Narp and  Louis Sangouard. LA Loves Puerto Rico
Hurricanes Irma and María have devastated the island of Puerto Rico, leaving millions without water, many without shelter, and an entire population without access to power. Many of the people in the hospitality industry have sought inspiration and solace in Puerto Rico’s jeweled beaches, emerald rainforests, and warm people. They stand together to serve up a small offering of food and drink – inspired by the island – as tribute to this important sister land. 100% of proceeds generated from specials at participating restaurants will be donated to United for Puerto Rico, an initiative brought forth by the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló, in collaboration with the private sector, with the purpose of providing aid and support to those affected in Puerto Rico by the passage of the hurricanes.
