Pastry chef Naomi Shim (L’Orangerie, Salt’s Cure, Coffee Commissary and Copa Vida) is collaborating with Maru chef Jason Park to create a six-course menu that highlights the best of local farms and mills. KCRW’s 7th Annual Good Food Pie Contest
The Fowler Museum is partnering once again with KCRW to present the celebrated, and ever so delicious, Good Food Pie Contest. Ray’s & Stark Bar Pays Homage to Frank Gehry
Ray’s & Stark Bar’s Executive Chef Viet Pham will roll out a series of dishes that pays homage to architect Frank Gehry in honor of the namesake’s exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. These rotating menu specials focus on structure and geometric design, providing a visual and flavorful dining experience. First up of the architecturally-inspired menu is the Crispy Pork Belly with mixed watermelon, spiced black vinegar, mint, opal basil, serrano pepper, pickled watermelon rind, and basil seed. This dish is plated in a cubic design that mirrors such Gehry projects as Norton House in Venice, Dancing House in Prague, and the Gehry Tower in Hanover, Germany. Saturday Nights in October at One Colorado
This October get down with local bands! This weekend the three-man group Boom Boom Boom serves up a “musical gumbo” they describe as “Acoustically Aggressive Jungle Boogie Love Songs for Dancing.” Formed ten years ago in Los Angeles by singer Joe Greene, drummer Marlon Grace, and bassist Dylan Cooper, Boom’s high energy performances are infectious and they blend honesty with an organic originality. Fall 2015 Brewery Artwalk and Open Studios
Going on 33 years the world’s largest art community is once again opening its studios to you. This is one of my favorite things to do in the city by far! You can check out the talents of resident artists who are painters, photographers. printmakers, sculptors, LED light sculptors, furniture designers, fashion designers, and environmental designers (plus more)! The Brewery Arts Complex was an operating brewery from 1897-1979. Its became an art complex in 1982. What is even better than the art at this event, is you get to see the artist’s spaces and discuss their works with them, first hand. Oktoberfest at the Anaheim Brewery
Anaheim Brewery’s two-session Oktoberfest covers all of the eating, drinking and music you can handle. On Saturday, don’t mistake their Alpenhorn blast from the train that runs by the Packing House, it’s the brewery’s way of signalling for Die Gemütlichen Schuhplattler, a German dance that’s a leg and ankle-slapping good time. Food includes bratwurst, pretzels and Anaheim Brewery’s Oktoberfest lager, which was recreated from a 100-year-old recipe found in the Paulaner brewery in Germany. Oktoberfest at The Phoenix Club
By far the largest and longest running festival in Socal is put on by The Phoenix Club near Angel Stadium and the Honda Center. The club was founded in 1960 to preserve German culture, customs and language and is open year round for events, classes and also has a great German pub, the Bierstube. Haunted Hayride
The Los Angeles Haunted Hayride returns this year with it’s most terrifying experience to date: Boogeyman. Make your way to Griffith Park’s Abandoned Zoo for an evening filled with more “scare zones” than ever. Boo at the Zoo
