Los Angeles Best Hikes

This time of year is full of food (and holiday cheer). Want to get a head start on January 1st’s workout? Head to any of these hiking trails for some of the best hiking Los Angeles has to offer.

Fryman Canyon
Fryman Canyon and its pet friendly trails are located just off Laurel Canyon. With views of the San Gabriel Mountains, this 3 mile loop in the Hollywood Hills is a slightly easier but a nice alternative to other popular Hollywood hikes like Runyon Canyon.

Escondido Canyon:
Get your feet wet and your heart pumping as you hike up the 4.2 mile Escondido Canyon’s tree lined trails.  The hike has a running creek and ends at the Escondido waterfall. Feeling adventurous? Making your way to the upper tier (100 feet high) of the waterfall.

Will Rogers State Historic Park
If you are a beginner head to Will Rogers State Historic Park for a moderately challenging hike with fantastic views! Make a day of it by taking a guided tour of Will Rogers’ home, followed by a picnic on the lawn, then hike the three-mile loop to Inspiration Point and take in the views of Santa Monica bay. If you are more experienced, take the Backbone Trail into the Santa Monica Mountains and spend the day hiking as far north as Point Mugu!

Bronson Canyon
Pack your camera and SPF and head to Bronson Canyon. Part of Griffith Park, the trail takes you to the Hollywood Sign. You can also take in views of the Observatory and the Hollywood Reservoir. Before calling it a day, head back down and make your way to the Bronson Canyon Caves which were the backdrop to some of Hollywood’s favorite shows, like Batman and Star Trek.

Temescal Canyon Loop
Enjoy fresh air and the beautiful surroundings of the Temescal Canyon Loop. The trail gradually becomes more challenging as you hike towards a “seasonal” waterfall and footbridge. If you’re up for it, continue hiking up Temescal Canyon Trail towards “Skull Rock” where you can get an amazing view of the ocean.
