The Corner Door’s Summer Cocktail & Dining Menu
This modest spot always exceed expectations with phenomenal flavors and style from Executive Chef Brendan Collins, Chef de Cuisine Ali Haji and Bar Manager Beau du Bois. Mama Shelter LA
Mama Shelter has opened its first stateside property (they have locations in Paris, Istanbul, and more). Situated in the heart of Hollywood, the six-story boutique hotel was designed by Thierry Gaugain, and features 70 art-inspired rooms starting at just $149 with suites at $399 a night. Mama Shelter LA has features including 27-inch iMacs for whatever you would like to use it for, along with Mama Skin (bio-care products in partnership with Absolution). Hyde Sunset Kitchen + Cocktails’ Comedy Show, “Raw Material”
This dinner-and-a-standup comedy show features local favorites and industry talent accompanied by a curated prix fix menu from Chef Chris Crary. This show will feature comedians Erik Griffin (Comedy Central’s Workaholics), Brent Morin (NBC’s Undateable), Tony Rock (Comedy Central Presents) and more. Chef has created a 3-course custom menu with options including Fried Chicken Sliders with a herb buttermilk biscuits, Heirloom Tomato salad with olive oil crouton and pickled shallot, Grilled Smokey Cauliflower, Torchio Bolognese, Local Black Cod with kumquat and puffed rice. Latin Street Food Fights Square Off at Border Grill DTLA
It’s the World Cup of grub! This August, Border Grill’s Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Millikenare are having Tuesday Night Street Food Fights. Over five weeks, eight countries will spar with their trademark street fare. Mexico, Spain, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, El Salvador, and Cuba will each have a fighting shot at taking home the title of street food champ. Each week, two Latin countries will take it outside on Border Grill’s downtown patio to chop, fry, and grill up on-the-go dishes that rep that nation’s culinary flag. The Bellwether Opens
Ventura Boulevard is getting another restaurant. This one looks like a Tudor cottage, but on the inside, you’ll find a bright, open space with wooden tables, black chairs, retro tiles at the bar, and a view of the kitchen. After a round of White Negronis (on tap) and a traditional, signature Bellwether Manhattan, order off the family-style menu. Dishes include Hamachi Crudo with avocado and pickled baby vegetables with puffed quinoa; Roasted Carrots paired with chamomile carrot jus, carrot top salad, and hazelnuts; Charred octopus with tabbouleh, preserved lemon, tangy Greek yogurt, and green olive; Crispy Pork and Scotch Rillettes served atop potato rosti with ham hock gravy, sunny egg, and pig ear; and Quenelle’s Grand Marnier bread pudding with candied pecans and malted crème fraiche ice cream or the market-fresh fruit in a Mixed Berry Fruit Tart that comes topped with orange blossom whipped cream. Houston-based Salata continues its rapid expansion with its new FIGat7th location – its third location in DTLA. To celebrate, Salata will offer a free salad or salad wrap and a signature drink to the first 48 guests in line this Thursday! Additionally, all salads and salad wraps will be sold at half-price on grand opening day. The new Salata location is locally owned and operated by Salata franchisee Ara Simonian, who also owns the two other downtown locations in the Citi National building and California Plaza. It will feature an updated, refreshed look and new digital menu boards. At Salata, you can create customized salads or wraps from your choice of fresh, healthy ingredients – including a variety of lettuce, vegetables, beans, fruits, cheeses, seeds, nuts, house-made dressings and more. Known for serving inventive Peruvian dishes that highlight the country’s multicultural influences, Chef Ricardo Zarate has partnered with restaurant reservation service Table8 to bring you a new limited-time Peruvian dining experience. Chef Zarate will take over the kitchen at Santino’s Santa Monica every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Meaning “eleven” in Spanish, Once (on-seh) gets its name from Zarate being the 11th child in his family, and will have food inspired by his earlier life in Peru. The menu will change each week and have 11 à la carte plates, meant for sharing. Dishes will include versions of Peruvian staples such as Lomo Saltado, Ceviches, Tiraditos, and much more.
