Warren’s Blackboard

Warren’s Blackboard, (4222 Vineland Ave., North Hollywood, CA 91602; 818.255.7290) is an experimental pop-up from Westside Tavern and Saddle Peak Lodge’s former chef Warren Schwartz. This former Holiday Inn, where you’re dining, is about to be a completely different boutique hotel called the Beverly Garland. Construction is about to start and this gives you the chance to experience a great chef experimenting with ideas for his new restaurant.

Swing by for breakfast and order up egg dishes like Eggs Benedict; Sautéed Zucchini and Roasted Tomato Scramble with fresh goat cheese; Californian Omelet with applewood smoked bacon, avocado, monterey jack; and 2X2X2 with 2 eggs, 2 buttermilk pancakes, applewood bacon or country sausage. He also has Cinnamon French Toast; Buttermilk Pancakes; Multi-Grain Belgian Waffle; Shortrib Hash; Steel Cut Organic Oatmeal; Homemade Granola; and Grapefruit Brulee. If thats not enough, opt for The Garland Buffet, an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet featuring eggs, bacon, pancakes, oatmeal, European deli selection and more! Coffee and juice are included, all for only $19.

Lunch includes appetizers like Red Pepper Roasted Garlic Hummus and Baba Ganoush; Buttermilk Fried Calamari; and Spicy Chicken Wings. Salads include the Not So Traditional Caesar with lime honey Caesar dressing; Kale Chicken Caesar; Grilled Steak Salad; and the Chop-Chop. Entrees and sandwiches include the Grilled Chicken Club; Prime Burger with Fiscalini cheddar, charred balsamic onions, secret sauce, and fries; Salmon Burger; Rigatoni Bolognese; and Fish Tacos.

As for dinner, starters include items like Oregon Bay Shrimp; Chopped Chicken Liver and Mushrooms on Crusty Bread; and Ceviche Mixto with octopus, shrimp and bass. Pasta dishes include Pappardelle with lamb tomato ragu, pecorino; Butternut Squash Ravioli with crispy pork belly, brown butter, sage, pumpkin seed oil; along with entrees like Pan Seared NY Steak; Korean Braised Shortrib with spiced pumpkin, spinach; and Orange and Sage Mary’s Chicken with mushroom bread pudding and pan reduction. Save room for dessert; he’s serving up Warm Churros with dulce de leche ice cream; Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding; and 3 Cheeses, quince jam, and marcona almonds.

Besides wine by the glass and beer, their are specialty cocktails like the Paloma with gin, grapefruit, lime, and soda; the Pineapple Jalapeno Margarita; Strawberry Fields with vodka, strawberries, basil, fresh citrus juices and strawberry balsamic honey; the Cucumber Press with vodka, lime juice, cilantro and cucumber; Dark and Manly with bourbon, lime and ginger beer; and That’s My Jam with rum, blackberry jam, fresh lime juice, mint and club soda.
