Sneak Peek of New Hollywood Hotspot, Laya with Jason Momoa and Meili Vodka

Los Angeles is about to get a dazzling new addition to its culinary scene. Mark your calendars for July 2nd, when Laya, the latest venture from Sunset Entertainment Group (SEG), officially opens its doors. Located in the heart of Hollywood, Laya promises to be a fusion of award-winning cuisine and star-studded glamour, thanks to the creative genius of Executive Chef Charbel Hayek, a recent winner of Top Chef Middle East & North Africa. On Friday, June 7th, I had the privilege to attend a special sneak peek of the restaurant, complete with a VIP happy hour featuring on the rocks cocktails provided by Jason Momoa’s Meili Vodka, and a special performance from his band ÖOF TATATÁ.

A Middle Eastern Taste with a California Twist

Chef Charbel Hayek, already a beloved figure in the Los Angeles restaurant scene with his other establishment, Ladyhawk, is bringing his signature flair to Laya. The menu features an array of Middle Eastern dishes with a California influence, promising a unique gastronomic experience that blends tradition with innovation. Expect vibrant, flavorful dishes that showcase the best of both worlds, from succulent kebabs to fresh, zesty salads.

Sunset Entertainment Group’s Latest Gem Designed by Studio Mood

The ambiance at Laya is just as enticing as its menu. Renowned design firm Studio Mood has created an atmosphere that transports diners to a sun-drenched open-air market. The use of earthy, natural materials and handcrafted accents gives the space a warm, inviting feel. Laya also boasts the largest outdoor patio in Hollywood, a sprawling 6,500 sq. ft. area that can seat up to 157 people – perfect for those sexy summer nights under the stars.

Adding to the allure, Laya comes from Sunset Entertainment Group (SEG), the masterminds behind some of LA’s most iconic nightclubs over the past three decades, including the Sunset Room, Lure, White Lotus, Le Jardin, Green Door, and La Mesa Lounge. Their reputation for creating memorable nightlife experiences sets high expectations for this new venture, and they are poised to deliver once again.

A Sneak Peek Celebration

And that brings me to the special sneak peek event celebrating Laya’s upcoming grand opening. The evening began with a VIP happy hour featuring some of Laya’s signature dishes paired with cocktails crafted from Jason Momoa’s award-winning Meili Vodka. Co-founded by Momoa and friend Blaine Halvorson, Meili, means “the lovely one” in Hawaiian,” and represents the adventurer’s heart, the purity of discovery, and the spirit of exploration” (Meili website). Recently crowned “the world’s best vodka” at the 2024 TAG Global Spirit Awards, Meili is both smooth and delicious, and the perfect base for any cocktail.

The drinks menu at the event showcased the versatility of Meili Vodka with a special selection of delicious on the rocks cocktails. We enjoyed the Elderflower Citrus Fizz (Meili, elderflower, grapefruit juice, lemon, and simple syrup), the Ginger Breeze (Meili, pineapple, ginger syrup, and bitters), and Love on the Rocks (Meili and ice). Each cocktail was a testament to Meili’s exceptional quality and will be a highlight on Laya’s drink menu.

ÖOF TATATÁ Rocks the House

The evening’s entertainment was provided by none other than Jason Momoa’s band, ÖOF TATATÁ. Jason, playing bass alongside Kenny Dale Borill and Mike Hayes, delivered an electrifying performance at the Sunset Room next door. The band brought out special guests, including Jason’s son Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa on the guitar, and daughter, Lola Momoa, who captivated the audience with a soulful cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie.” Ever the proud Papa, Jason was all smiles as he accompanied his son and daughter on stage.
