Ruling The Roost for the Holidays

This past fall, Owner Joshua Kepel and Executive Chef Sammy Monsour brought together the best of both worlds and moved South City Fried Chicken to their other restaurant, Preux and Proper, a New Orleans- inspired DTLA favorite.  After many requests, locals can now rejoice that Preux And Proper, formerly only open for dinner, is now is open for lunch Monday – Saturday, serving South City’s menu, including their award-winning fried chicken. Now is the perfect time to visit as they kick off Sleigh Bells On Spring for the entire month December, featuring holiday cocktails and specials, and even weekly visits from Santa!

It might be 70 degrees in LA, but you can trust good ol’ Southern boys like Josh and Sammy know how to ring in the holidays. Some seasonal specials to try are their Chicken and Waffles, with an eggnog twist, Orange Duck Confit, and the Roast Beast, a tomahawk pork chop with fried rosemary.  Depending if you’ve been naughty or nice, there are many cocktails to choose from, like the Gnome Alone: Lost in LA with Glenlivet 21 year, applewood smoke, house made ginger liquor. If you’re looking to get cozy, He Sees You (Both) When You’re Drinking (for two) with Tito’s vodka, absinthe, and Prosecco will warm you up. If these clever names won’t do you in, the Treat Yo’ Elf (Irish whisky, almond milk, roasted marshmallow, and chocolate rim) will.

Remember tis’ the season to stuff your face so you want to also try their staples, like one of South City’s five Fried Chicken Sandwiches, each of which is named after a meaningful place back home (Chapel Hill, Greenville, New Orleans, Austin, and Nashville).  The beignets are made with bananas foster dulce de leche, and all their seafood cooperates with Monterey Bay’s Aquarium’s exacting standards, meaning it’s the best for the environment and your taste buds.

You can rest your conscience after working your appetite- Josh and Sammy aren’t just great owners, they’re great people. Sustainability starts at home as they are growing an herb garden in the restaurant and even subsidize their employee’s health benefits. For the entire month of December, they’re giving everyone the opportunity to give by they’re partnering with NKLA, an initiative to help end the killing of homeless pets in L.A. city shelters. To participate, bring any new and unused pet food, treats, toys, paper towels, blankets, litter, or grooming supplies to Preux & Proper and they’ll gift you a complimentary cup of cheer!
