Salt & Straw Teams Up with Los Angeles Artist, Scott Hove to creat Dualpolitan
To celebrate the creative history of their newest scoop shop’s neighborhood in Los Angeles’ burgeoning Arts District, Salt & Straw has partnered with artist, Scott Hove, to createDualpolitan, a one-of-kind ice cream flavor inspired by the artist’s work. Packaged in a limited edition, half gallon “cake art” carton that mimics Hove’s three-dimensional sculptures, the edible work of art will be available until supplies last, exclusively at Salt & Straw’s Arts District outpost. Inspired by the Neapolitan, the special edition Dualpolitan incorporates the three colors associated with the classic combination; however, the flavors aren’t your eye-to-mouth expectations, leading to a surprising flavor medley with every bite. The concept behind the multi-dimensional ice cream plays on issues of dualism often seen in works by Hove, who is best known for “Cakeland,” an on-going art installation series where his bending, weaving, and haunting installations immerse you into a world that is both comforting and thoughtful. Hove and Malek challenged themselves to translate these motifs into the flavor, via a layer of soft pink ice cream symbolically surrounded by stark white and intense black ice creams. All proceeds from the sale of the $50 cartons will go toward Inner-City Arts, one of the city’s leading arts education providers in the heart of Skid Row, to benefit the organization’s core programs for underserved youth. Only 200 packages are available; each is individually signed and numbered by Hove. Friday; 829 E. 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90013; 213.988.7070
