Inotheke

Inotheke (606 Broadway Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90401; 310.458.3366) is just what Santa Monica needed. It’s a modern Greek restaurant that I like to think of as an elevated picnic. The new dining destination comes from Carolos Tomazos and has a clean, bright yet cozy aesthetic. With earthy tones spread through out, along with pops of blue, Inotheke has a seaside vibe. From the white walls with black and white photos, to the dishes served in rustic white metal plates, this spot is perfect for a nice dinner and still casual enough to swing by for lunch (coming soon).

As for the food…you can’t go wrong with anything you order. The Modern Greek menu has shareable dishes that range from Cod Fritters to “Lakerda,” with Ahi tuna and a fresh herb salad to Herb Crusted Salmon with eggplant. Some dishes that were our favorites (and we ordered more than once) include the braised Octopus stewed in red wine and pearl onions; Shrimp “Saganaki” with tomato sauce, feta and ouzo; Short Rib “Stifado” braised with shallots and red wine (the boys’ favorite); Greek Mousaka made with ground beef, eggplant, zucchini and a light twist on the “Béchamel” sauce; Lamb & Orzo with tomato and Parmesan; Pork Belly “Kolokasi” with taro, coriander and spinach; and the Roasted Cauliflower, which I could eat for days, it was so good.

Everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and left you wanting more….which we did! I love how the menu has something for everyone. Whether you are vegetarian, love red meat, or stick to fish, there is a plate that will keep you going back.

But wait! What better to pair with perfect Greek food than wine? The name Inotheke, translates to “wine case,” so you can be sure great wines will be served. The wine list is large with over 20 varietals by the glass and over 60 selections by the bottle, along with four rotating draft beers and 12 bottled beers. Plus, the servers are well briefed in the wine list and can help you with your selection.

So, thank you, Inotheke, for coming to Santa Monica. You are a great addition with delicious Greek food, a huge wine list, and comforting atmosphere that feels like a home away from home.
