Weekend

Carrie at Hollywood Forever Cemetery
If you can handle horror (I can’t), check out this terrifying film that turned into a genre classic, thanks to a show stopping performance by Sissy Spacek. An outcast girl with telekinetic abilities is bullied by the kids at her school. When they play a mean prank on her at the prom, she unleashes her true power. John Travolta and Nancy Allen are the high school bullies, and Piper Laurie is Carrie’s mom. Directed Brian DePalma. $10+; Saturday, 6:30 pm/doors, 8:45 pm/movie; 6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA

Fun Family Flicks: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
We all love the Oompa loompas! Have fun with Willy Wonka’s green and orange sidekicks as they warn that naughty behavior at the Chocolate Factory (and in life), has it consequences. This original film version (and my favorite) of Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical tells the story of Charlie Bucket, a naive boy who’s scored a Golden Ticket, found in only five chocolate winning Wonka Bars. Along with four not so sweet kids, their tickets give them an exclusive tour of the magical candy factory of Willy Wonka. Inside, they find a chocolate river, three-course meal flavored gum, a Fizzy Lifting Drinks Room and geese that lay golden eggs. One by one the not-so-polite children are undone by their wicked ways. Munch on Tasty Kettle Korn snacks (while supplies last). Free, Friday, 7:30 pm (or when it gets dark); One Colorado Old Pasadena, 41 Hugus Alley, Old Pasadena CA 91103
