Taste of Taiwan

For the next month, Trattoria Neapolis (336 S Lake Ave, Pasadena, 91101; 626.792.3000) will be featuring a menu inspired by Chef Bryant Wigger’s trip to Taiwan where he was one of three chefs chosen from around the world to compete in the renowned Taste of Taiwan cooking competition. While he was over there, he learned from the masters and competed in various aspects of Taiwanese cuisine, such as dreaded dumpling making. (Harder than it looks- let’s just say they were lucky my mom wasn’t available for the competition).

Chef Bryant’s trip has culminated in his featured dish of the month, the delicious Five Spice Roasted Pork Belly, where the pork belly is roasted overnight, seasoned with Chinese 5 spice sauce and dry salted baby shrimp over a bed of polenta. Get it while you can- the dish will be served until February 15th, and the first two hundred to order the dish will receive a free gift from the Taiwan Tourism Bureau!
