Melrose Umbrella Company (7465 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, 90046) is opening in the former spot of The Foundry on Melrose. This new spot is from partners Ian Shepp (Key Club), Zach Patterson (Bagatelle), and Austin Melrose (Medusa Lounge, Bagatelle), and the new drink spot’s design is by Matt Winter of M Winter Design (41 Ocean). Cocktails are by Patterson and Julian Cox (Picca, Petty Cash).
This place has class. I mean, there’s even chandeliers in the bathroom! Winter says the design is “a step into European old world design with elements of stone work and beautiful raw architecture.” The building was built in 1936 and Winter uncovered its original bones will designing this spot. The stone that goes throughout the lounge and seen in three fireplaces was taken from a 1920s home, and the rear bar was made from an original apothecary cabinet that is from the turn of the century. Other accents include found objects to give a comfortable feel.
When the adjacent Greenspan’s Grilled Cheese finally opens, you will be able to order off that menu. As for now, sip on craft cocktails that use custom infusions, fresh juices, and local ingredients.
