TWIST Eatery

Owner Joelle Bercovitch is pleased to announce the opening of TWIST Eatery (344 S La Brea, Los Angeles, 90036; 323.938.9478), a chic urban cafe with a comforting twist. Situated on the stretch of South La Brea that has been coming to life lately, this eatery is a natural fit amongst the loft-inspired architecture, industrial and earth-friendly furniture, and artisanal shops reshaping the area. Exposed wooden trusses, marble countertops, and industrial and vintage fixtures in bright yellow give TWIST a stylish, unpretentious vibe.

Bercovitch and TWIST Eatery’s Chef de Cuisine, Anna Statman, spent every Wednesday for the last two years testing their favorite recipes to create the light breakfast, extensive lunch, and the soon to be offered weekend brunch. Together, they have presented straight-forward, comfort food, starting with some of their light breakfast options like The Granola Parfait with house-made granola, fresh berries, Greek yogurt and a drizzle of orange honey, or the Biscuit Sandwich with scrambled eggs, bacon and cheddar, served on a homemade biscuit.

TWIST’s lunch menu includes salads and bowls like the Moroccan influenced, Chicken Couscous Bowl with organic chicken dusted with Ras Al Hanout (a blend of spices used in Morocco and North Africa), and is then served with vegetable couscous cooked in a turmeric-cinnamon broth. You can also enjoy the Salmon Bowl, which includes Moroccan spiced oven-roasted salmon and a lentil-quinoa salad, tossed in pomegranate vinaigrette, topped with a citrus salsa. As for salads, try The Romaine Caesar Salad with preserved lemon Caesar dressing, topped with house-made brioche croutons and sprinkled Asiago cheese; or the Raw Salad with kale chiffonade, cherry tomato, carrot, celery, avocado, raw beets, and pepitas finished with fresh citrus-ginger vinaigrette. A variety of fresh salads, like the Greek Orzo SaladTropical Quinoa, and Lentil Walnut will also be served from the deli case daily in single, duo, and trio servings.

On the Sandwich Menu, items like the Pulled Brisket Sandwich get a twist with roasted tomatoes and a dollop of horseradish Crème Fraîche served on house-made brioche;  Tunisian Tuna Sandwich with black olives, pickled onions, preserved lemons on a baguette with Harissa mayo; Grilled Vegetable Sandwich with grilled eggplant, zucchini, roasted red peppers and tapenade on house-made focaccia; Organic Grilled Chicken Pressed Sandwich with Havarti, onion jam and arugula, served on a ciabatta roll; and the Pressed House Roasted Turkey Sandwich with turkey breast, Brie cheese, apple raisin chutney and served on a ciabatta roll. Any of these sandwiches can be enhanced with sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, or avocado upon request, and all sandwiches are accompanied by a seasonal Kale-Cabbage Slaw or Mixed Baby Green Salad.

On the bakery side, order up Chocolate Mousse Roulade (a variation of a classic log cake);  TWIST Banoffee PieCreole Bread Pudding; or the Frangipane Pear Tart. Try something totally new like Joelle’s Twist Tops, which are small rounded cakes filled with an assortment of flavors like Lemon CurdDulce de Leche and Fudgy Chocolate.
