Are you a dessert first kind of person? Well, then get your butt to Ramekin (1726 N. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, 90027; 323.667.9627). No, not the little white pot that often holds olives, nuts, and spinach dip. It’s the name of a new dessert-centric spot in Los Feliz, soft opened now.
The décor is charmingly simple and functional, containing personal touches from Chef Jason and the staff. The warm gray wall on one side is opposing the cream wall to give a yin-yang feel that represents the equally delicious warm desserts with the ice cream. The main copper light fixture was designed and constructed by Chef Jason, with the tables and chairs all purchased used, recycled and refurbished by the partners and the staff. The wooden shelves and tree trunk table and benches are very utilitarian, finished by hand, while being hung and connected by steel piping.
The minimalist space, has a menu filled items that are or have been potted in a ramekin and given the chef treatment by Jason Park (Maru, a Valencia sushi restaurant known for its desserts). Paul Yoo, a partner of Mexicali Taco and Co., helps with the ice cream.
Artisanal ice cream and sorbets come together with farmer’s market-driven flavors including blood orange, guava & kiwi, chai, jasmine tea, banana chocolate chip, and mango. Baked-to-order desserts include berry cobbler, chocolate bread pudding, apple cake, and rotating cookies that are perfectly “under-baked” and fresh out-of-the-oven. Other desserts include passion fruit panna cotta, marscarpone cheesecake, banana cream pie, apple cake, not your usual Bread Pudding, and fruit tarts.
They also have Handsome-roast coffee, Zona Rosa Coffee, & Rishi Tea on hand to go with your chosen dessert. And the butter and almond milk are made in-house. Continuing a practice of serving only the best, raw milk, pressed juice, and raw coconut water can accompany your desserts.
