Dine Out Long Beach, Restaurant Week 2.0
With the dining scene exploding in Long Beach and new restaurants calling the city home, the time has come for the ultimate moveable feast. Gazette Newspapers will present Dine Out Long Beach, Restaurant Week 2.0. It’s a seven-day celebration of dining conceived by Elizabeth Borsting, who also co-founded the city’s first restaurant week in 2013. You can enjoy two-course lunches starting at $10 and/or three-course dinners or small plates starting at $20. There are no tickets to purchase or passes required as guests experience the restaurants–and their settings–first-hand. Chefs’ Cooking + Tasting Series
Celebrate Dine Out Long Beach, Restaurant Week 2.0 with a Chefs’ Cooking + Tasting Series. This event features chefs whose restaurants are participating in Dine Out Long Beach, Restaurant Week 2.0. Chefs include: Chef Janine Falvo of Sip Bar + Lounge at the Renaissance Hotel (11 am); Chef Pete Lehmer of Gladstone’s (noon); Mixologist Michael Rausa of E.J. Malloy’s (1 pm); Chef David Coleman of Chianina, Michael’s On Naples, and Michael’s Pizzeria (2 pm); Jim Tate of Parkers’ Lighthouse and Queensview Steakhouse (3 pm). Each chef will demonstrate a signature dish from within one of exhibition kitchens at Friedman’s Appliances and you can chat with chefs about techniques while learning recipes they can recreate at home. Michael Voltaggio’s new Sunset Strip sandwich spot takes his ink.sack concept to the next level. He is offering new menu items like Straus Creamery milkshakes, Stumptown nitro cold brew coffee and Boylan’s fountain soda. Don’t worry, you can still get Sack’s Cold Fried Chicken with ranch cheese, lettuce, pickles and hot sauce; Spicy Tuna with tuna salad, dynamite sauce, nori, pickles, lettuce and tomato; and “BAE”, bacon and egg with cheddar, arugula and mayo. Tam O’Shanter’s Robert Burns Dinner
They are hosting their annual celebration of the poet, Robert Burns. The Tam’s celebration of his 257th birthday will feature over 40 varieties of single malt scotch on display and available for tasting, specially prepared Haggis, and performances by authentic bag pipers, drummers, step dancers, and more. Burns introduced the character of Tam O’Shanter in a poem in 1790, and the term came to be associated with a large Scottish-style wool hat worn by men. Burns also is known throughout the world for writing the Scottish folk classic, Auld Lang Syne. Dr. Neil MacLeod hosts the event at The Tam and has been doing so for 32 years. During the celebration, the Haggis is served using a sword to cut the meat and guests drink out of goblets. There will be a playful take on Burns’ poetry, as read by actress Koni McKurdy. Additionally, Chef Ivan Harrison, a Haggis aficionado, will be the celebrated cook for the evening. Chef Ivan started working at the Tam in 1958 and retired after 42 years of service.
