On Wednesday, January 10th, the Thrive Causemetics team celebrated the launch of their new Sheer Strength Lip Plumping Peptide Gloss by hosting a self-defense class taught by nonprofit Giving Partner Peace Over Violence.
About Peace Over Violence
Peace Over Violence is a nonprofit 501c3, multicultural, community and volunteer-centered organization dedicated to building healthy relationships, families, and communities free from sexual, domestic, and interpersonal violence. To achieve this mission their agency manages five departments delivering the services of Emergency, Intervention, Prevention, Education, and Advocacy.
Sheer Strength Self-Defense Event
The event coincided with January being National Personal Self-Defense Awareness Month, a time devoted to bringing awareness and education regarding self-defense. The event began with an introductory speech from Thrive’s CEO Karissa Bodnar. She invited nonprofit Giving Partner the TransLatin@ Coalition members to join her and speak on the importance of violence and learning self-defense to protect yourself. The group discussed how their “sheer strength has helped them thrive and survive” and enforced their mission to pay it forward and help others find their inner strength. Following the speech, Karissa surprised the organization’s founder, Bamby, with her own namesake shade of the Sheer Strength Lip Plumping Peptide Gloss.
After this beautiful moment, the self-defense class started. We took part in an hour-long training course where professionally trained personnel taught us a variation of safety moves. The training began with demonstrations on how to punch, strike, hammer, knee, and kick an assailant, and ended with us performing the self-defense moves on the teacher. The Peace Over Violence program pushes the message of using one’s body and voice as a force as it is the one form of protection we can guarantee having.
