If you feel as though your home is full of endless clutter, then it is so important that you take steps to deal with that right now. If you don’t, then you may find that the issue only gets worse over time, to the point where you can’t move forward.
Start with Five Minutes
One of the first things you need to do is try and start by doing just five minutes at a time. If you are new to decluttering, then you can build a lot of momentum here. Give one item away every day, as over time, this would remove over 365 items. It’s not hard to see how beneficial this would be, and if you feel as though you can double that, you will notice an even bigger difference.
Get a Bin Bag
Another thing you can try and do is get a bin bag and then try to fill it. If you can fill a trash bag quickly, and if you can fill it as fast as you can, then this will help you to clear out with ease. Donate your clothes if you don’t wear them anymore. Discard the clothes that you might not have touched in a few months. Keeping items because you might wear them at a later date is one of the biggest mistakes you can make, so you need to try and keep this in mind because if you don’t, it will compound the issue. If you feel as though you have too many clothes to deal with, then one thing you can try and do to work around that would be to look into hauling services. They can help you to get your items taken away, and you don’t have to worry about filling up your yard or making endless trips to your local recycling centre.
Take Before and After Pictures
Another thing you need to do is try and take before and after pictures. Choose one part of your home that you love, and then take a photo of that area. When you see how your home could look, you can then use this approach and apply it elsewhere. You can also get help from a friend if you feel as though that would benefit you. Have them go through your items and ask them to suggest things you could get rid of. If they don’t agree with you about keeping it, or if they can give a valid reason, then it’s time to get rid of it.
Four-Box Method
Lastly, you can look into the four-box method. This is where you get four boxes and you label each one with trash, give away, keep, and relocate. When you do this, you can then take each box to where it needs to go, which will help you to keep yourself accountable. It will also help you to sort through the items you own, so you know what to do and how to move forward with everything. Things like this can make a big difference.
