Hotel Dena: A Creative Oasis in the Heart of Pasadena

Hotel Dena, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is officially open in Pasadena. Nestled in the heart of vibrant downtown Pasadena, Hotel Dena is a stylish and sophisticated oasis for discerning travelers. This newly renovated hotel has been transformed into a creative hub, celebrating the city’s rich cultural heritage and inspiring guests to embrace their inner artist.

A part of the Tribute Portfolio (Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio of 31 extraordinary hotel brands), Hotel Dena aims to attract travelers looking for fresh experiences that reflect their own individuality. Owned by Monarch Alternative Capital and managed by HHM Hotels, Hotel Dena is a part of HHM’s Independent Collection, a selection of lifestyle hotels that are connected to local communities and offer personalized service. “The new Hotel Dena celebrates the originality in each of us, offering a destination that encourages unique opportunities to interact with the performing arts,” says Naveen Kakarla, President and CEO of HHM Hotels. “We have proudly created a hotel where guests are able to both recharge and awaken their creative senses from its rich fusion of design, amenities, services, and experiences.

Artistry

From the moment you arrive, you’ll be captivated by Hotel Dena’s unique aesthetic. A vintage Bentley sits in the circular driveway in front of large-scale music-themed mural hand-painted by artists Ian Schuler. The doorman is donned in a vintage 20s-style uniform complete with suspenders and hat. The hotel’s lobby is a feast for the senses, with its bold colors, whimsical furnishings, and eclectic artwork and souvenirs. Step through time and walk through a lobby gallery of old Hollywood artifacts. Get lost in the craftsmanship of an antique record player, and relive history by flipping through old newspapers from the 1930s. Perhaps my favorite part of the lobby is the hotel’s vintage-looking screening area where you can sit and watch old movie clips of Charlie Chaplin and other silent film stars. For Halloween, the hotel is playing thriller movie clips to go along with the spooky season.

Amenities

When you’re not exploring all that Pasadena has to offer, you can relax and recharge at Hotel Dena’s many amenities. The hotel features an outdoor heated pool, a 24-hour fitness center, and several inviting outdoor seating areas. The pool comes alive on the weekends with DJ Don Jon spinning Saturdays at the poolside dayclub, and on Sundays, guests and locals are invited to attend an invigorating poolside pop-up barre class and mimosas led by The Bar Method.

You can also grab a bite to eat at one of Hotel Dena’s two restaurants: Lyric, which serves up craveable SoCal dishes and inventive breakfast and lunch options daily from 6:30 am – 3:00 pm, or Agents Only, a bespoke bar and lounge offering attention-grabbing cocktails like the spooky seasonal Spiced Pumpkin Pasadena Martini, small bites, flavor-forward dishes, and an array of live entertainment (open mics, stand-up comedy, and karaoke), open daily from 3 -11:00 pm. A daily “Casting Call” happy hour is also available from 5 – 7:00 pm.

Lyric’s breakfast features craveable SoCal dishes like this decadent French Toast.

Make sure to stop by bespoke bar and lounge Agent’s Only for a craft cocktail like the Red Carpet seen here, and a delicious meal. I had the salmon and it was grilled to perfection.
