Looking for an escape from LA? Del Mar Beach Hotel is the perfect coastal sanctuary to rest, recharge, gather, and explore. As the upscale laid-back beach town of Del Mar’s only hotel on the beach, Del Mar Beach Hotel offers a beachside retreat that embraces the warm comforts of home while invoking an elevated beach experience.
Located two hours outside Los Angeles (30 minutes from San Diego) and nestled on the sand, Del Mar Beach Hotel welcomes guests to bask in a “sophisticated coastal oasis,” says General Manager Ryan White. After undergoing a multimillion-dollar redesign and a fresh look from international interior design firm Parisi Portfolio, Del Mar Beach Hotel has reopened as a modern California coastal boutique hotel with 46 elegantly appointed guest rooms, suites, and two residences. The rooms combine modern Mediterranean and California coastal influences, and feature the hues of warm beiges and sand with blue accent colors, seamlessly blending with the sky and nearby water. The furniture is a palette of warm wood tones complemented by plank wood floors, all accented by custom art and light fixtures with a modern flair. The hotel’s art is curated by national artists, paying homage to Del Mar’s storied history, community, and beachfront environment. The focal area of each room is the headboard mural, depicting a picturesque coastal scene. The ambiance is perfect for getting comfortable in the hotel’s plush bathrobes, climbing into bed, and nestling under the cozy linens, all provided by Frette. Similarly, Del Mar Beach Hotel’s two residences, The Beach House and The Bungalow, offer the same décor along with luxurious perks like a kitchen, Jacuzzi, and outdoor seating area, designed to accommodate six to eight people.
The hotel offers a myriad of special amenities, including several complimentary items: a welcome glass of fine wine from the Cruvinet Wine Dispenser (which is also available around the clock with craft beers for a fee), La Cimbali espresso in the lobby, beach cruisers for exploring the town, and beach chairs, umbrellas, and beach towels for the beach. Additionally, the hotel has a charmingly hip Airstream Café, open throughout the day, and features coffees, fresh juices, and to-go offerings such as pastries and sandwiches. Guests are also welcome to shop at the boutique to purchase flip-flops, beach towels, tote bags, wine glasses, and candles. For those who want to be in the fresh air, relax in the outdoor areas, perfect for parties and small gatherings. The North Patio includes all-day fun with music, tables, firepits (s’mores anyone?), and TVs. Soon to come, Del Mar Beach Hotel will launch various programs for guests, such as beachfront movies, stargazing activations, and wellness and fitness series in partnership with local studios.
Del Mar Beach Hotel provides access to the longtime favorite beachfront locale, Poseidon Restaurant, which is located mere steps from the hotel. Owned by the same family that has owned the hotel since 1968, Poseidon serves lunch and dinner seven days a week. Guests can also dine at neighboring upscale seaside restaurant Jake’s, or venture to nearby Del Mar Village, where they can choose from several eateries, including the lively Mexican restaurant Tamarindo Del Mar. Make sure to order the Caesar Salad with Shrimp and a Spicy Margarita!
As a solo traveler, I loved every minute of my stay at the Del Mar Beach Hotel. Waking up to the waves crashing on the shore was the perfect way to start my day. The view was the perfect backdrop as I did my morning yoga and drank my espresso. Plain and simple, I will most certainly be back!
