The HALL Cabernet Cookoff
The HALL Cabernet Cookoff will return for its eighth year and it hosted by Vintner Kathryn Hall and HALL Wines. The annual event will feature a lineup of renowned chef teams trying for a chance to win proceeds for a charity of their choice by participating in a food and wine pairing competition. 100% of ticket proceeds benefit Napa Valley non-profit organizations. Chef Teams present paired seasonal bites with HALL Cabernet to an all-star panel of celebrity Judges who vote for the top dish. Chef teams are also judged by you, who select the top two pairings for the title of People’s Choice Award. Participating Chef teams include The Grill at Meadowood, One Market, Harvest Table, The Patriot, Ca’ Momi, Winery Chefs Napa Valley, Goose & Gander, Paula Le Duc Fine Catering, Bounty Hunter Wine Bar & Smokin’ BBQ, Shakewell Oakland, Harris Ranch, Feast Catering, Brix, Intercontinental Mark Hopkins, Kara’s Cupcakes and Sift Dessert Bar. Vegfest

Chili Cook Off
The International Chili Society’s biggest event of the year goes all-out for spicy-food fans as cooks compete in categories like best red chili, green chili, and salsa. Dessert Fest
Cap off the weekend with a sweet dessert festival curated by Time Out. Jackalope Pasadena
Pasadena’s Central Park will host the third year of this local handmade design festival. New to 2017, Jackalope will be partnering with the Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) to promote their programs and services by accepting donations on their behalf. DWC’s mission is to provide permanent housing and a safe and healthy community, and to advocate ending homelessness for women. You can visit the MADE by DWC booth during the fair, carrying a line of unique gift items that were created in collaboration between DWC program participants and community artists. MADE by DWC is a social enterprise created by DWC to break cycles of chronic homelessness and unemployment. Taste of the Eastside
This food and drink festival showcases the culinary diversity of eastern neighborhoods including Silver Lake, Echo Park and Los Feliz, with proceeds benefiting local nonprofits. Rudy & Hudson Opens
Named after their grandfathers, Rudy and Hudson, co-founders Lawrence Rudolph (Pitfire Artisan Pizza, American Gonzo Food Corp.) and Chef Joe Miller (Joe’s Restaurant, Bar Pintxo), Rudy & Hudson’s menu includes organic and locally sourced items wherever possible, with the restaurant’s house-crafted jams, mayonnaise and pickles. Breakfast highlights include Brioche French Toast with ricotta cheese and house made preserves; Joe’s Chilaquiles with corn tortillas, organic eggs, smoked chicken, black beans, cheddar cheese, and salsa; and a range of omelets like the Truffle Jack Cheese, served with hash browns and toast. Bacon Pancakes and Coffee Waffles are among the more creative offerings from the griddle, along with Dutch Baby Cakes, puffy pancakes in a cast-iron skillet available in three varieties: kale, crisp bacon, aged cheddar; lemon ricotta, avocado honey, powdered sugar; or sliced apples, cinnamon, white raisins. Lunch dishes include salads like the Albacore Tuna Salad with greens, tomatoes, olives, hard cooked egg, green goddess and house-made mayonnaise and the Pulled Chicken Salad with market greens, cucumber, red onion and curry dressing. Sandwiches include the R&H Reuben with pastrami, sauerkraut, gruyere Thousand Island dressing and house made pickles; the Smoked Brisket Sandwich, smoked in-house, with horseradish, smoked cheddar, baguette and au jus; and the R&H Burger with tomato and butter lettuce and a choice of white cheddar, gruyere or blue cheese. Redondo Beach 125th Birthday Celebration
Celebrate the city of Redondo Beach’s 125th birthday. Participate in Redondo Beach’s commemoration events which begin with a vintage car show, guest speakers and a 1892 photo collage display at the Ruby’s Diner lot. The celebration continues at Heritage Court and Dominguez Park where historical exhibits will be on display at the Queen Anne House and the Morrell House Living Museum. A select number of vintage automobiles will make there way from the Ruby’s Diner lot to Heritage Court. All donations will benefit the operations of the Historic Museum at Heritage Court. Brewery Artwalk
This biannual art walk is one of my most favorite things to do in Los Angeles. It takes place in an art complex, which is inside a former Pabst Blue Ribbon brewery. Downtown Burbank Arts Festival

Street Food Cinema
The outdoor film series officially opens this weekend with a screening of La La Land at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. Music will also be provided by The Urban Renewal Project. The Godfather Part II at the Los Angeles Theatre
One of the most ambitious American films, The Godfather II has suspense, intrigue, glamour and murder. Written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, the is one of the best films of the golden era of filmmaking. Starring Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, dual stories are set in the worlds of mid-century Cuba and Las Vegas and the old world of Sicily and New York in the early 1900s. Winner of zix Academy Awards, catch the epic movie on the big screen in the city’s most opulent historic movie palace. While you are there, explore the theatre’s ballroom, fountains, balconies, powder room and nursery on six floors. They will all be transformed it into a 1950s Vegas resort with dancers, live music, DJs and casino games. Dress up 50s glamour for the free themed photo studio and get your portrait taken in the world of The Godfather. There’s also full bars on five stories of the theatre.
