Kaya Street Kitchen, (109 N Fairfax Ave., Los Angeles, 90036; 323.879.9288) comes from partners Barry Tu and Yuli Miller and is a fast-casual airy space, serving up a Southeast Asian menu (Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore).
The menu works by choosing your base. You can choose a bowl with coconut lime rice (Jasmine rice, coconut milk and a hint of lime), brown basil rice (brown rice, thai basil, and a touch of garlic and lime), or a salad of baby kale and green leaf. If bowls aren’t your think, opt for a taco. They have Roti tacos with an organic salad or lettuce wrap tacos. Either way, you then choose a protein like grilled chicken satay, lemongrass coconut steak, shrimp & pork meatballs, or sambal tofu.
Once you have chosen your protein, add on veggies like sweet tamarind slaw (green papaya, carrots, and mint tossed in a sweet tamarind dressing), S.E. Asian slaw (seasonal tropical fruit, cucumber, jicama, bell peppers, and cilantro sprinkled with honey), garlic kale, peanut slaw, sambal corn, or light pickles. There are additional add ons as well, including crispy garlic, crushed roasted peanuts, chopped red Fresno chilis, herb trio, and sauces like sweet soy glaze and roasted tomato garlic sambal.
Open daily, 11 am-10 pm.
