Homage to Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso is one of my most favorite artists of all time. In celebration of his 133rd birthday, Galerie Michael is presenting more than 100 unique original works by the Master. The exhibition explores the characters and faces that inspired seminal works such as Portrait d’Olga Picasso, 1919-1920 and Portrait de Jacqueline Accoudée, 1963-64. The Blue Period opus, The Frugal Repas, 1904, depicting Picasso’s early days as a starving artist in the Spanish Quarter of Paris, is a visual masterpiece central to the development of early Modernism and a jewel in the crown of the art historical canon. Jill Bernheimer’s Domaine LA Wine Tasting
Join importer, distributor and all around wine wizard, Ted Vance, for an exploration of vineyard soil types and their wines. When not importing his own wines, selling some great California selections and Oliver McCrum’s Italian book, Ted is an avid traveler obsessed with geology and the magic that happens below the vineyard floor. Ted is known for carrying around a bag of rocks to his tasting appointments to show the various soil types of the wines he pours that day. A way to connect a place with a wine, to better understand where it all began and how that material informs the wine. It’s arguably the most important thing about a wine and what is often overlooked. The focus of this tasting are alkaline vs. acidic soils in three regions – France’s Loire and Northern Rhone as well as Italy’s Piedmont. $15 (Domaine LA will give 10% off bottles featured in the tasting); Sunday, 2-5 pm; 6801 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles
