Murph’s Review

Time to fill’er up

MURPH'S - Bar 2

Sherman Oaks has just gotten a lot cooler with the inception of Richard DiSisto’s latest offering, Murph’s, (14649 Ventura Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 91403; 818.986.9999) a casual dining and old-school watering hole designed like an old-fashioned gas station/garage. If this helps, let’s just say it has the feel of a place where you might find a guy named Murph.  DiSisto, who is starting to build his own little empire in downtown Sherman Oaks, finds Murph’s and its classic Americana menu and bar complements his other spots, Tipple & Brine and Tunnel Bar, very nicely. Don’t be fooled by its “everyman” appeal- the food is far from generic. Head Chef Mike Williams’ “in-house and everything from scratch” mantra involves everything from grinding the beef for the burgers to making the sauces to butchering up whole hogs for the Meat Board, Pig Ear Fries, and their signature Pate. As for drinks, it wouldn’t be a real filling station without a full bar churning out some cocktails that will put some hair on your chest, or at least make you feel like you got some.  The Oil Change, bonded bourbon with fresh lemon, honey, and ginger, the River Tam, a tequila-lime creation with habanero, ginger, and soda, and their Vanilla Coke, their spin on the root beer float, are all you’ll need for a tune-up, not to mention 20 beers on tap.

Open Monday-Thursday, 4-10 pm, Friday, 4-11 pmSaturday, 11:30 am-11 pm, and on Sunday, 11:30 am-10 pm. The bar is open Monday-Sunday from 4 pm-2 am.
