Harlowe, (7321 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90046) the Golden Era bar and lounge from 1933 Group, is set to open on May 16. I am very excited for my hood to get another night spot, because it’s taking over where Crown Bar use to live. 1933’s Bobby Green designed a space with a circular bar in the middle with custom steel stools and hand-painted tiles, along with a patio where you can also enjoy your cocktails. The decor also includes French and Italian antiques, banquettes, and a wrought iron fountain was made into a fish tank.
Eric Greenspan (Greenspan’s Grilled Cheese, The Rooftop on Wilshire) is the consulting chef at Harlowe. Expect to munch on roasted beets and carrots with goat cheese; caponata bruschetta with burrata and heirloom tomatoes; eclair bites with smoked whipped cream and dulce de leche.
Dushan Zaric (NYC’s Employees Only, Macao Trading Co) is the head of the bar program and works with manager, Kyle Ackley, to create a menu that has cocktails like the Yellow Jacket,(reposado tequila, yellow chartreuse, elderflower and grilled orange peel) and Rye the Long Face? with rye, honey, lemon, apple cider vinegar and pickled rhubarb boba.
