The Wilde Thistle

The Wilde Thistle (3454 Motor Ave., Los Angeles; 310.730.6208), a Celtic cafe, is from owner and chef Caity Wallace. This Culver City spot (and future pub) has been serving, with a Celtic twist, since January 11th with a menu of baked goods, soups and sandwiches. They are serving up signature scones in flavors like Lemon Cranberry, Triple Ginger, Scottish Oat, Cherry Chocolate, and Orange Chocolate Oat. You can get them with a side of Strawberry Butter, Marmalade, and Devon Clotted Cream. Other pastries include the Muffin of the Moment, Cupcake of the Moment, Lemon Bars, Fruit Tarts, Irish Soda Bread, Croissants, and Cookies.

As for lunch, order up soup with a sliced of a baguette or soda bread; salad; Celtic Pasties (meat pie that you can get in Cornish Beef, Vegetarian, or Monthly Special); The WILDe Ruben Sandwich; The Toasted Thistle Sandwich with House WILDe artichoke spread, Rogue Creamery Smokey Blue Cheese, and sliced tomato on Homeboy multi grain bread; or create your own. There’s also a Quiche of the Day; A Ploughman’s Lunch that comes with a choice of 2 of today’s cheeses, fresh Homeboy Baguette, pickled onion, mixed green salad, WILDe cabbage & potato slaw, Branston Pickle and butter; and The County Clare with WILDe Smoked Salmon, Irish Brown Soda Bread, Irish Butter, Chutney or Branston Pickle, WILDe Cabbage & potato slaw, mixed organic greens.

They also serve Alana’s Coffee and the Art of Tea. Gather some friends and do a full afternoon tea, which includes scones with Devon Cream and Strawberry Butter, desserts, a selection of tea sandwiches: Turkey & Earl Grey Honey Butter; Curried Chicken; Turkey Brie Honey Mustard; Sharp Cheddar & Branston Pickle; Cucumber, Butter & Dill; Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese & Capers, and unlimited Tea or Coffee.

Open Monday-Friday, 7 am-5 pm and Saturday & Sunday from 9 am-5 pm.
