Palm Springs

Aching to get away, but money is a lil tight? You can relax in Palm Springs on a budget. When I want to get away, it means relaxing (unless I continue two hours past Palm Springs and head to Vegas). The Curve hotel offers a relaxing pool area with a bar, pool, jacuzzi, and beds to snooze on in the hundred degree heat. In between rotating for the perfect tan and hopping in the pool to cool off, you will be back to your old self in no time.

The rooms are all retro and I suggest getting one that over looks the pool. This way, later in the day you can hang in the sun on your balcony and recover in the AC when the heat begins to be too much. You can also grab some grub in the restaurant in the lobby. They serve up breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can always eat al fresco by the pool after your afternoon nap.

While in Palm Springs, make sure to get to Trio. The orange-themed, mid-century, restaurant is decked out in pop art that will have you walking around before or after your meal, just to see what is on their walls. Don’t miss the 5 ft. rubber chandelier in one of the formal rooms. Besides the decor and the food, the service at Trio is friendly, informative, and won’t steer you wrong.

The modern American menu features a variety of fish, steak, organic salads plus seasonal items from local growers and farmers. We had starters of Calamari and White Fish Ceviche. The ceviche was so fresh and had big pieces of fish and the calamari, which sometimes can be overly heavy, here it is crisp, light and delicious. As for entrees, we had the Roasted Half Chicken, which is marinated the night before in olive oil, lemon and garlic. We also had the Yankee Pot Roast and the Linguini with Wild Mushrooms. Both were great. We were excited for the pot roast, because you rarely see that on a menu. It was comfort food at its finest and we dug right in. As for dessert, we had the Trio Nut Torte, which was hazelnuts, pecans and walnuts held together by caramel and topped with chocolate. It was a sweet ending to a perfect meal.
