Tsurumaru Udon (333 S Alameda, Los Angeles, 90013) has opened up in a mall in Little Tokyo and it’s a legit Japanese-import spot serving big bowls of delicious noodles assembly-line style. Start at the beginning of the line, where you’ll choose your size and they’ll load your bowl with freshly cooked hot or cold noodles. Don’t be bashful, go for the big boy!
Base options include niku udon topped with Japanese-style stewed beef, and grated ginger-/radish-topped bukkake udon. Then, you can add bonus items, like pickled plum, or made-to-order shrimp tempura and side options, like rice balls stuffed with salmon or seaweed.
