Bucato, (3280 Helms Ave Culver City, 90232) lands in the former Beacon space in the Helms Bakery complex in Culver City with a pasta-focused menu by Evan Funke. Bucato, which means “laundry” in Italian, received its name because back in the day, the place that is now Bucato was a laundry facility. Just like, laundry back in the day, washing by hand, Funke focuses on making pasta they old fashion way, with just a stick and board.
Designed by Undisclosable Inc. with white walls, dark wooden tables, a knife art piece (that looks like California) on the wall, and a rolling pin chandelier, you can grab a seat in the dining room or on one of the two patios. There’s also a temperature-controlled glass-enclosed pasta lab, an open kitchen with bar seating so you can take in the action, and a butcher room for disassembling whole animals sustainably raised in Cali.
Expect about 8-10 handmade pastas, seasonal small plates prepared over a wood-burning oven, and house-made sourdough bread. As far as alcohol, the restaurant will serve a selection of boutiques wines from Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Oregon and NorCal.
Opening Wednesday.
