As a 25 year vegetarian, I have been on the hunt for the perfect veggie burger – one that is not only healthy, but also delicious. I’ve come across many brands all claiming to be ‘the one.’ Some taste like cardboard, while others do a good job of delivering on taste but lack in the health factor. One common ingredient that I’ve found on my search is soy. Yes soy is packed with protein, but it is also packed full of chemicals as it is grown in a laboratory.
The founders of Beyond Meat vowed to go beyond their competitors, and create a new kind of veggie burger – a soy-free ‘plant-based product that looks, tastes, and behaves just like meat.’ And just like that, the Beyond Burger was born.
Luna Grill has long been one of Southern California’s healthy eating establishments. This Mediterranean inspired eatery has a menu packed full of fresh, healthy, clean foods free of Trans or hydrogenated fats and soy. Adding the Beyond Burger to the menu made perfect sense.
Now the moment of truth. This weekend, I had the opportunity to sample the Beyond Burger at Luna Grill. Was it all the hype? I knew it was plant-based but would the taste be THAT good? At first glance, it looked like a burger, but I’ve been fooled before. Boy was I WRONG!
This was by far one of the BEST sandwiches I have had PERIOD, and the BEST veggie burger I have tried. I have to give it to Luna’s chefs. They incorporated the Mediterranean theme effortlessly by topping the burger with spicy feta, lettuce, tomato, chopped onion, and serving it on a fresh brioche bun. One word – PERFECTION!
I can’t wait to go back to Luna Grill for another Beyond Burger. I know this may not be your desired meal, so Luna Grill still has their classic kabobs, falafel, salads, hummus and wraps. You may end up running into me at one of their 43 locations in Southern California and Dallas Ft. Worth. If my mouth is full and I can’t say Hi, you know why.
