Killer Shrimp is now merging with the Hermosa Beach bar, The Mermaid under the new name of Killer Shrimp at The Mermaid. Located right on the beach on 11 Pier Ave, Killer Shrimp at The Mermaid is serving up dishes including the famous secret family recipe-Killer Shrimp ‘Original’ bowl, the Killer Paella and my fave, the Shellfish Platter.
When we went to check out the new menu, we ordered up the Shrimp Cocktail, Steamed Mussels, Ahi Tuna Poke, Crab Fries, The Seafood Salad, and Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes as a side. I love when restaurants take a long standing, tried and true dish, but makes it their own. Killer Shrimp at The Mermaid does just that with their shrimp cocktail. With the cocktail sauce mixed with chopped up shrimp and celery, the shrimp cocktail is almost like a ceviche but with the flavors of shrimp cocktail. Needless to say, we devoured it. The steamed mussels are huge mussels that sit in a delicious, light broth and a tower of bread to use as a vessel to get that broth to your mouth. My go-to, the seafood salad, is a salad piled high with shrimp, calamari, crab, along with an egg and avocado. I could literally eat it every day of the week. Every dish was fresh and perfectly seasoned.
In addition to the delicious seafood, Killer Shrimp at The Mermaid also has Grilled Filet Mignon with garlic fries and a red wine sauce; Slow Braised Beef Short Rib with garlic mashed potatoes, wilted spinach, baby carrots, crispy onions, and a red wine sauce; Bone-In Pork Chop that is cornmeal crusted and served with creamy peppercorn sauce and blue cheese mashed potatoes; Pan Roasted Chicken Breast with garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, and whole grain mustard sauce; Blackened Salmon Filet with maple scented brown butter sweet potatoes and wilted spinach; Sautéed Salmon with mango salsa and garlic mashed potatoes; Jumbo Crab Cakes served with a caper beurre blanc sauce and garlic mashed potatoes; Sautéed Scallops served with a caper beurre blanc sauce and garlic mashed potatoes; Lobster Ravioli with apple wood smoked bacon, spinach, garlic, and a white wine cream sauce; and Garlic Shrimp & Clams with black & white linguini, parsley, lemon, butter, parmesan, and griddled bread…just to name a few.
Along with the updated menu, there are renovations planned for Killer Shrimp at The Mermaid which include an expansion of the beachside patio, so even more people can sit just steps from the ocean. Sport-loving guest can rejoice over the big screen televisions that have been added to the main bar and what used to be the back pool room is now The Copa Lounge, an intimate 1950’s themed dining room, with diamond tufted leather booths and classic rock and roll artwork. Live acoustic music has also been added to the new weekend programming.
Whether you are a seafood lover, a spice lover, or simply like to dine right on the water (who doesn’t), Killer Shrimp at The Mermaid has something for everyone. You will not be disappointed.
