Spring Opens
Restaurateur Yassmin Sarmadi and Executive Chef Tony Esnault have opened Spring, located in the Douglas Building in DTLA. As the second collaboration from the husband and wife team behind Church & State, the restaurant’s cuisine was inspired by Southern France. In an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication with an expansive open kitchen, they are serving lunch today followed by dinner on February 19. The restaurant was designed by Sarmadi and Esnault, and brought to life by architect David Wick and interior designer Beth Thorne. It’s divided into two areas, with an intimate lounge with rich dark wood paneling and plush green tufted seating areas and has a large bar with turquoise walls and vintage artwork. The lounge opens to an atrium with tables and sage-colored chairs, two large pepper trees and a fountain in the center of the dining room. Pizza Romana’s Reverse Happy Hour
They are debuting a reverse happy hour with Roman-inspired late night special featuring $6 pours and bites. You can explore Palermo’s curated collection of regional Italian wines at this casual local pizzeria. Little Easy
Head to the Little Easy in DTLA for a Mardi Gras festival fit for a Rex (King of the Carnival). The New Orleans bar that brings the soul of the French Quarter to the heart of Downtown is pulling out all the stops for this traditional Southern Louisiana soiree, featuring food and drink specials, along with live music! They will have 3-2-1 Special, featuring $3 Hurricane Shots, $2 Abita Beers and $1 Wings all day long. Spare Tire Kitchen & Tavern
New Orleans soul comes to life at mid-city hotspot Spare Tire Kitchen & Tavern this Mardi Gras for a special Fat Tuesday Bourbon Street Festival. Fill up on Southern soul-food specials and classic French Quarter cocktails while taking in Live Music from a brassy jazz Dixie Band, along with Carnival-clad Stilt Walkers and charming (and charmed)Magicians. Indulge in a feast of down-home Louisiana style cooking, including Cat Fish Po’boy Sliders, Cajun Crawfish, Jambalaya and Gumbo, and Gator Meatballs. Nibble on Southern Bayou Snacks like Collard Greens, Oysters on the half shell, Fried Okra and Fried Pickles, Red Peas & Rice and a classic French Quarter, doughy Beignets dusted powdered sugar. Dishes on the Mardi Gras Menu are the only plates that will be available from 4 pm to Close and the regular menu will not be on offer during this special event. The Beignet Truck
They will be posting up in front of Royal to join in the celebration and will have a crawfish boil going on for $15 per pound and it comes with all the fixins (roasted potatoes and corn). Sassafras
Receive a complimentary Mandarin Napoleon French 75 (from 5-6 pm) upon arrival. During happy hour you can sample new cocktails for $8 and nosh on customary Crawfish Boils. Live entertainment is provided by Mudbug Brass Band and burlesque dancers and NOLA’s Abita Brewery is poised for an all-night tap takeover. The reimagined cocktail menu, curated by Sassafras managers Chris Whelan and Kalani Ben, explores southern tradition and features house-made accoutrements. For instance, Rutte of All Evil (Rute Celery Gin, lime juice, celery-apple shrub, Miracle Mile Bergamot Bitters) and Country Lovin’ (pepper butter-washed white whiskey, honey-corn syrup, Peychauds Bitters, and whole egg) are unexpected and have refreshing flavors commonly found in bayou dishes. WP24 in The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles Rings in the Chinese New Year
This one-night-only event is featuring a “Night Market” display of food stations (with options like Alaskan King Crab Lo Mai, Whole Roasted Peking Duckling, Crispy Skin Pork Belly, Chinese New Year Dumplings and Spicy Szechuan Skewers) and lion dancers, followed by a sit-down, three-course menu. The event marks the start of the restaurant’s celebration of the Lunar New Year. Curated by chef de cuisine John Lechleidner, the three course menu begins with options like Whole Santa Barbara Spot Prawns and General Tso Glazed Wolfe Ranch Quail.
