January 2016, the Month to Cleanse!

January is always the month where people jump on the healthy bandwagon. I tend to be healthy all year round, but I even over indulged this past holiday season. What can I say? I needed to go for it before it was 2016, which was full on wedding mode. Now in January, Tyler and I are joining the dry January crowd and I am all about the cleanses.

I began the second week with a cleanse from Beaming, which serves up organic cold-pressed juice, superfood smoothies and healthy take out on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica. I did the lean cleanse to get me ready for bridal gown shopping that was going down in a week or so. The lean cleanse has a menu with 1000-1200 calories of Beaming’s low-glycemic artisan cold pressed juices, soup, salad, superfood elixir and a protein snack or almond milk with Beaming Superfood Plant Protein. This cleanse isn’t for someone who has never cleansed before. It’s more liquid based and definitely for the more experienced cleansers. (For beginning cleansers, try their signature Lifestyle Cleanse).

I started my day with a vitality power shot, which I suggest mixing with warm water. It was intense and will definitely wake you up. About a half hour later, you enjoy their green juice which is created with cucumber, celery, spinach, parsley, fennel, Fuji Apple*, lemon, mint. It’s filling and gives you energy for your day. Later on you can choose either the Beaming superfood protein bite or the low glycemic superfood smoothie. I went with the smoothie and it was delicious. I would definitely swing by Beaming to pick one of those up as a meal replacement here and there. It was a protein rich, low glycemic, alkalizing low calorie almond milk. The bite, I ate the next day and the little nugget created from coconut butter, almond butter, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, chia seeds, Beaming Protein, greens, lucuma, goji berries, coconut sugar was a creamy, slightly sweet treat.

When it came time for lunch (and chewing), I got to dig into a salad with grapes, apples, quinoa, almonds, and lemon vinaigrette. It was light, but satisfying and the had really good flavor. Later in the afternoon, you chug down another green juice with anti-inflammatory organic ingredients. After thant, comes the Superfood Elixir, which is tart, spicy and aids your metabolism, hydrates, and helps with digestion. It’s created with coconut water, alkaline water, lemon, MSM, ginger, camu camu, cayenne, natural stevia. MSM is great for your hair, skin, and nails (which I need for the big day…grow hair grow). Camu camu is the highest form of vitamin C and ginger is great for digestion. I loved the dinner. It was a raw arugula curry soup made from arugula, cucumber, coconut water, avocado, cilantro, kale, lemon, ginger, brags, yellow curry paste, and pepper, it was spicy, satisfying, and filling.

I am not going to sugar coat it doing a cleanse…the first two days are not pleasant, but by the third day, I am in it to win it. I am sure if I gave this cleanse a few more days I would feel the same. The food was delicious, the juices were filling and it left me feeling light and energized.

If cleansing isn’t your thing, but being healthy is, then get yourself over to Beaming because besides cleanses they have smoothies, juices, snacks, and superfoods, galore. This spot will get you back on track for your 2016 (whether you’re getting married or not).
