Fourth Annual Venice Holiday Sign Lighting & Block Party
The historic Venice sign, which stretches across Windward Avenue, will receive its annual seasonal makeover, changing the bright white bulbs to red and green lights in honor of the holiday season. After, join in a Block Party featuring live music, a bevy of food and drinks provided by local sponsors including the Venice Whaler, a poster contest and more! This year, the event will feature a Venice-wide poster contest involving all of the community’s public elementary school students, showcasing the winning artwork from every grade from each school along Windward Avenue beginning at 4:30 pm. Six overall winners will be announced on stage before the sign lighting. In addition, the Venice Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the LAPD Pacific Division and Pacific Area Boosters, will be collecting toys for the 9th Annual Muscle Beach Toy Drive. Executive Chef Nick Liberato from the Venice Whaler will be serving up complimentary homemade cookies and steamy hot chocolate beginning at 6:15 pm. At 8 pm, a surprise guest celebrity will “flip the switch” and changing the lights on the Venice sign. Angel City Brewery Celebrates Prohibition Repeal Day
Raise a glass, ring the bells and wave a flag – it’s the 82nd anniversary of the Repeal of the Prohibition Act. Celebrating in period speakeasy-style, Angel City Brewery invites you to toast to the end of drinking in the dark. The brewery will host a private speakeasy up in the Mezzanine Lounge – but like the old days, entry is restricted to those in the know. A password will be revealed on Angel City’s Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter in the days leading up to the party. The Speakeasy Lounge will have a specialty flight bar featuring barrel aged and cellared beers, as well as samples of Angel City’s Sparkling Berliner-Weisse, a twist on the brewery’s regular Berliner-Weisse. This specialty beer, only made at the holidays, is blended with Chardonnay and Viognier grape must, then fermented with a house strain of Belgian yeast and pushed to the limit of carbonation. For something a bit more decadent, order up the Banana Nut French Toast made with Grand Marnier-battered French toast topped with a banana-walnut caramel sauce and maple syrup.
