Cinespia Presents Dawn of the Dead
George Romero invented the zombie genre and it hasn’t gone anywhere since. Survivors of a zombie attack take refuge in a shopping mall, where they fight off the undead. Dia de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos Altars at Grand Park
Grand Park expands the celebration and traditions of Día de los Muertos. The park’’s presentation of more than 50 altars and art installations in honor of Día de los Muertos in partnership with Self-Help Graphics & Art are a sight to see. The altars, which remain in the park all week long, will focus on both traditional and contemporary topics and explore the connections between the holiday’s origins and the daily lives of Angelenos. Altar subjects range from personal stories that celebrate families and lost loved ones, to more contemporary expressions of current affairs and community challenges, such as gang violence, immigration reform and education. Noche de Ofrenda at Grand Park
This traditional Noche de Ofrenda ceremony honors the dead and features a prayer led by the local indigenous community. In addition to enjoying performances by traditional dancers representing the Aztecan, Oaxacan and Michoacán traditions, as well as Los Angeles-based poets and musicians, you can also help build a giant community altar. Day of the Dead Celebrations in Old Pasadena
Old Pasadena is also celebrating the Day of the Dead. Visit One Colorado to celebrate the Day of the Dead, where local businesses and artists to come together and create altars to tour. Stop by Mercantile Place for the Day of the Dead Fiesta from 1-4 pm on Sunday, including free activities and giveaways. The Armory Center for the Arts and Color Me Mine Pasadena are offering kids crafts, in addition to Day of the Dead face painting, a traditional altar installation, and free paletas (popsicles) to the first 200 guests. DTLA Oyster Festival
Los Angeles’ only Maitre Écailler (Shellfish Master) and owner of The Oyster Gourmet, Christophe Happillon, is ready to prove that “oysters are the new sushi” at The DTLA Oyster Festival. Maru Opens
Chef Jason Park’s French Japanese market-driven concept Maru is offering lunch, happy hour and dinner. With cocktails handcrafted by Matthew Biancaniello, the concept has a market menu that changes seasonally, as well as a sushi bar with one of the largest collections of ike-jime fish flown in overnight from Japan, helmed by sushi master Itsuroku Kimura. Lunch offerings include a full service dining experience, grab-and-go sandwiches and salads, and fresh baked pastries with coffee service. Park’s menu highlights include: Cherry Tomato Salad with House-made ricotta, shiso pesto, and sherry vinaigrette; Alaskan Black Cod with half brown rice, sautéed haricot vert, and meyer lemon broth; Ribeye (42 oz) with fingerling potatoes, crème fraiche, and tempura buna shimeji mushrooms; Curry Lamb with crispy-shiitake rice cake, marinated onion, cilantro, and Japanese curry; and Passionfruit Panna Cotta with White guava bellini. Chef Park collaborated with interior designer, Michelle Dokey to design the space that has cathedral ceilings and a juniper wood bar. Guest Room Opens
Guest Room’, a new speakeasy from the team behind Estate Restaurant + Bar in Santa Monica, pays homage to the Prohibition Era of Lucky Luciano and Al Capone. Designed by O’Brien & Associates, the feel of Guest Room was inspired by the roaring 20’s with cocktails that have imaginative twists on timeless classics from mixologist Greg Bryson. But, shhh…Guest Room serves only those in the know. Find the hidden door leading to the alley within Estate Restaurant + Bar. Inside, you will find a space inspired by Art Deco and Modern Industrialism, with a color palette of indigo, champagne, and garnet. There are material like bronze, along with velvets on the deeply-tufted sofas and chairs. Fiberlicious
This exhibition examines the work of 16 contemporary artists—from established to emerging—who are expanding the possibilities of traditional fiber art, while challenging its definition. Fiberlicious brings together a variety of works that focus on social, political, spiritual, and personal experiences. Exploring a range of themes from the human condition to the celebration of culture, the selected artists use materials or techniques drawn from fiber-art practices and combine various mediums to produce large installations, video, participatory projects, and interactive and performance works to transform old art forms into modern works. Co-curators Scott Canty and Carol Shaw-Sutton developed the distinctive Fiberlicious exhibition, selecting talented mixed media artists including Tanya Aguiñiga, Diedrick Brackens, Enrique Castrejon, Liz Collins, Dawn Ertl, Krista Feld, Carole Frances Lung “Frau Fiber,” Tina Linville, J. Christopher Natrop, Wendy Osher, Chili Philly, Jennifer Reifsneider, Nike Schröder, Lorenzo Hurtado Segovia, Ruth Katzenstein Souza and Ann Weber.
