The Luxe City Center Hotel

Many of you know, Tyler and I got engaged a little over a week ago (yay!!!). Well, he couldn’t have chosen a better day because we were already planning on doing a little staycation/review at the Luxe City Center Hotel for hoopLA. After our exciting morning, we arrived at the boutique hotel on cloud nine, with Frank in tow. I absolutely loved the hotel’s aesthetic. I have an art background, so I fell in love with the luxuriously chic hotel and its mod/artistic touches. There was bright, colorful artwork all over and I was particularly fond of the second floor, which was full of Warhols.

You could not find a better DTLA location. This hotel was right outside LA Live, the hub of activity in DTLA. You can choose to relax in your room, or head out to all the festivities, while being steps away from your home for the night. We checked into the Platinum Suite (which made our apartment look like a closet) and it was breathtaking. With a view of LA Live, it had two bathrooms, three TVs (one in the mirror of the bathroom), a living room, and a bedroom that oozed relaxation. With tones of platinum, champagne, and deep greens, the suite blended comfort with a luxury contemporary feel. There was also beautiful acacia hardwood floors, lush carpets, and touches throughout including sculptures, books, and 100% cotton terry robes (which I lived in during the weekend). The granite and marble bathrooms had a soaking tub, rain-style shower heads, and digitally controlled Kohler multi-function showers.

This escape from the city has 175 rooms, including 16 suites, that have more of a residential feel than a hotel stay. Once we settled in, we headed to the outdoor terrace at niXon that has private cabanas, cozy fire pits, and a sculptured water fountain. The bar opens up into the patio for an indoor/outdoor experience overlooking the street scene below. We ordered the shrimp & pesto flatbread and the grilled fish tacos. Tyler fell in love with the flatbread, which he said was a great combination and I was amazed at how much fish came in the tacos. The food was fresh and perfect to enjoy in the sun.

We quickly found out that the hotel knew of our engagement and it meant so much that the staff congratulated us. They even sent a bottle of Champagne and Bottega Louie’s macarons to our room, which we were delighted to celebrate with. After relaxing in the room for a few hours, we made our way to our private cabana and had a dinner of tuna tartare, chicken lollipops, and a plethora of sliders. It was so nice to relax on the patio and enjoy our appetizers while taking in the city view.

The next morning, we ordered in breakfast, and later on headed down to niXon for their bloody mary bar. I don’t know how I didn’t know about this gem until now. They have a DIY bloody mary bar with every type of fixin’ you could ask for. From Heirloom tomato juice, to tomatillo juice, to bacon, to peppers, they had it all. You can be creative, try new concoctions, and sip under the sun on any Sunday. Plus, they have bottomless mimosas too! Even if you are not a guest at the hotel, this spot is a must. It’s great for big groups, small gatherings, or simply a relaxing Sunday.

Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. The Luxe Center City Hotel is a special hotel in the middle of the action. With a sophisticated feel, great food, and impeccable service, I don’t know why you would stay anywhere else in DTLA.
