Status Kuo, (3809 Grand View Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066) the Mar Vista rotisserie-focused eatery from Executive Chef and owner David Kuo along with his wife Maki and Chef de Cuisine Keith Silverton (Messhall Kitchen, La Brea Bakery), will officially open its doors today.
The restaurant was inspired by the growing Mar Vista neighborhood, which Kuo saw was full of young residents and families who are probably pressed for time during the week and could use a healthy meal that they can pick up on the way home from work.
Concepted by Design, Bitches (Superba Food & Bread, The Springs), the eatery is bright and sleek with 10 contrasting wooden tables, an open kitchen, a few animal decals on the wall and a take out service/catering (Whole 20-30 lb roasted suckling pigs and sides will offered with advanced order). With a menu focused on rotisserie meats like chicken, lamb, suckling pig and prime rib, Status Kuo will also serve a large selection of rotating sides, sandwiches, salads, seafood, vegetarian and vegan-friendly options like jackfruit and house made tofu, as well as home made pastas and breads, including gluten-free pasta. Hand churned custard and fried-to-order hand pies are on the dessert menu and beverages will include house made sodas with proprietary syrups. Overall, the presentation of the dishes was what really caught my eye. I love the addition of eatable flowers and the mix of fruit with savory. The dishes were works of art.
Born and raised in Los Angeles with parents who hail from Taiwan, the eatery will also be an outlet for Kuo to explore his own roots, with rotating menu items to include homemade pasta with gochujang and Taiwanese “Sunday Gravy,” Chinese-style barbecue pork, and Peking duck.
Open daily for lunch and dinner, 11 am-to 9 pm.
