Blue Bottle Coffee Buzz on Abbot Kinney

Far enough away from Abbot Kinney’s coffee darling, Intelligentsia, Oakland’s Blue Bottle Coffee has opened it’s retractable garage door up the road at 1103 Abbot Kinney. LA’s second shop (the other is in the Art’s District) features baked goods including Blue Bottle’s signature cookies, granola and fruit buckles, and baked goods from Farmshop. As for the coffee goods, Blue Bottle serves its single origins and blends as drip, espresso drinks. The House espresso is Dandy, which is exclusive to LA. They’re also offering Almond Milk from their friends at Almond Milk LA. Those savoring an endless summer will appreciate their signature New Orleans Iced Coffee, which tastes like an iced coffee malt, made to order and in to-go cartons. Tea is not served, but hot chocolate is.

Here’s what’s different. See if you notice the custom light installation by Bay Area-based Tekamaki video display professionals. More than 1700 LED pixels are connected and spaced 50mm apart behind glass, behind the coffee making area. The light installation allows custom colors to fade in and out and the initial blue coloring currently seen is inspired by Venice’s skyline at 5pm. The lighting fades down at 7pm and fades up starting at 6:05am as employees begin preparing for the day. New colorings and patterns will rotate on a seasonal basis.

If you get hooked, they also just launched Blue Bottle at Home, offering both ongoing subscriptions and one-time gift subscriptions, bringing quality coffee directly to your door. More info here.
