Sushi Akatora

Sushi Akatora, (302 Rosecrans Ave., Manhattan Beach, CA 90266; 310.546.3761) comes from Michael Cardenas’ (Toranoko, Lazy Ox Canteen, Taberna Arros y Vi) and is just steps from the beach. Named after Cardenas’ grandfather’s fishing boat, the concept is Kappo cuisine, which means the chefs will have face-to-face interaction with you.

Ryk Maverick from Starlingear designs is behind the rustic interior. It has a Japanese fishing village feel with hand-painted aged wood and vintage Japanese artwork.

Food includes kobe sukiyaki, rib eye steak, grilled shishito peppers and beet salad. Plus, sushi and sashimi, like hamachi crudo and oysters with uni.

Open Monday-Thursday, 5-10 pm, Friday & Saturday, 5-11 pm and Sunday 4 pm-11 pm.
