Tanabata Celebration at Hinoki & the Bird

Hinoki & the Bird is celebrating the Japanese tradition of the Tanabata Star Festival. Usually, Tanabata is on the 7th day of the 7th month of the year when, according to the legend, the two stars Altair and Vega, which are usually separated from each other by the Milky Way, are able to meet. Colorful festivals are held across Japan in early July and August to celebrate.

Throughout July, Chef Kuniko Yagi will prepare 10, five-course tasting menus nightly. The menus will change daily based on Kuniko’s findings at the market. A sake menu of rare finds will also be offered by the carafe or full bottle. In Tanabata tradition, at the end of the meal you will receive a card to write a personal wish for the future which you can choose to have hung on a wall of bamboo inside the restaurant.

$85; limited to 10 people per night and is available by reservation only Tuesday – Friday evenings starting on July 1; 10 Century Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90067;310.552.1200
