In honor of Tax Day, we bring to you our newest segment, The Ekanomist, by contributing blogger E-Kan, and wholly dedicated to his favorite cheapest eats in the city. Taste is always a priority, but your wallet will be happy too.
Dino’s Chicken and Burgers, with five locations in Southern California, is already an institution. Don’t be fooled by it’s modest appearance-what looks like an ordinary take out shack is a well-oiled machine, relentlessly pumping out orders and always with a line out the door. Even more well-known than its service is its legendary dish, the 1/2 Roasted Chicken with fries plate, served with a side of cole slaw, tortillas, and over a bed of fries. The best part? It’s only $5.99! What makes the dish famous is its sauce, an alarming bright orange, and the perfect mix between tangy, spicy, and oh so bad for you it’s good. This is the only time you should be eating chicken this color.
And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even ask for extra sauce, just to get that perfect soak with the fries. Not for the faint of heart- seriously, you should probably clear it with your doctor.
Also Ekanomist worthy is Dino’s wet burrito plate, preferably with carne asada. It comes with homemade rice and beans and is only $6.30! This burrito looks like it ate a Baja Fresh burrito for dinner. And when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Dino’s is open until 11 pm every night of the week, and midnight on Friday and Saturdays.
