You may not find yourself down in Hawthorne too often, but now you have a reason to get down there (and it’s a good time). Eureka! Tasting Kitchen is rolling out great eats, $5 Bloody Marys all-weekend-long, and an in depth craft beer and whiskey menu. Some of our favorite dishes included starters like Steamers (Manila Clams steamed with butter, garlic, herbs, sherry wine served with grilled ciabatta); Fried Chicken Sliders, that were huge and came on buttermilk biscuits; and Osso Buco Riblets (Sherry braised pork, lightly tossed in a fire cracker aioli). Other restaurants take note, because we could have easily ordered another one of these called it a day. That’s how savory, slightly spicy, and satisfying these little bites were.
For entrees we went the burger route with the Jalapeño Egg Burger thats topped with a fried egg, melted cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, spicy chipotle sauce, garnished with jalapeno peppers and the Fresno Fig Burger with homemade fig marmalade, melted goat cheese, crispy bacon, garnished with minced tomato, onion and arugula dolloped in a spicy porter mustard. What we loved were the options! You can get your burger on a bun, in a tortilla, in a lettuce wrap, or on a bed or arugula. We also tried their Naked Chicken Saltimbocca (Sautéed chicken with oven roasted tomatoes, prosciutto ham, fresh sage, smoked mozzarella cheese served over a bed of arugula finished with lemon vinaigrette) and make sure you don’t miss the Golden Sweet Potato Fries. They are glazed with honey and cinnamon. Basically sweet potato fries on crack.
Definitely take some time and get down to Hawthorne for a relaxing, fresh, delicious meal while watching airplanes take off and land at the private airport next door. You’ll feel like you had a mini vacay.
