Movember! Haven’t jumped on the hairy bandwagon yet? Well, let some of Los Angeles’ best bars and restaurants, including Del Frisco’s Grille, Muddy Leek and Larry’s in Venice.
Still don’t know the history of Movember? Launched in Australia back in 2003, Movember was started as a fun way to raise funds and awareness about men’s health issues including prostate and testicular cancer. Today, the month-long event is the world’s largest men’s health movement and helps bring raise money to combat men’s health issues. To participate, starting November off, clean-shaven and grow the most awesome moustache possible over the course of 30 days. All funds are funneled to the Movember Foundation.
The restaurant collabo started with Santa Monica’s Del Frisco’s Grille, who signed up with Movember.com as an official team. They launched their month-long Moustache MENu, featuring the Philly Fuzz, Food Man Chew, MO-shroom Flatbreads and specialty cocktails like the Lip Tickler and Stiff Upper Lip. For the rest of the month, every Monday will be Moustache Monday at the Grille, offering free appetizers to mustachioed men and a portion of the proceeds from sales will go directly to the Movember Foundation. There is also a “Best in Mo” Facebook contest where patrons can share their moustache pictures.
Del Frisco’s then reached out to other restaurants to become active and support the cause, and Muddy Leek jumped at the chance. They are offering a free appetizer for anyone participating in Movember by having a moustache or beard, or wearing a moustache t-shirt. (Tuesday-Saturday, 11 am-10 pm). Additionally, they’re serving a specialty cocktail called the John Waters with Wahaka Mezcal, Chareau Aloe liqueur, cucumber jalapeño syrup, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, bruleed grapefruit, Meyer lemon zest, and a ‘stache swizzle stick. 50% of all the proceeds from the sale of the John Waters cocktail will be donated to the Movember Foundation. Plus, Chef Whitney Flood and Pastry Chef Holden Burkons have shaved their mustaches and beards to grow back from scratch in honor of the month’s festivities.
