Although the temps may still be in the 80s, it is officially Fall and that means 1886 Bar (1250 South Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena, CA 91105; 626.441.3136) has rolled out their fall cocktail list. The menu is bold and delicious in flavor, and, as usual, visually works of art.
Everything starts with the Lead In, a selection of three appetizer-style cocktails. The Quick and the Dead has a 12-year Demerara rum, double infused with Stumptown whole coffee beans, alongside a glass of Irish Stout. The Cádiz Cooler, a Marcos Tello creation, is a sherry style cocktail served inside a hollowed-out cucumber, rimmed with Spanish Salt from the province of Cádiz. The next section is called The Drop and has Adam McLean’s Gin n’ Roots, a cocktail inspired by a Bronx-area juice bar opened by rapper Styles P. It has bourbon, fresh carrot juice, muddled ginger root, lime, honey and Apple Jack. Brady Weise is behind the Pimm’s #10 featuring a Pisco base along with citrus and cucumberand the Late Night Stalker, a version of the classic Collins using celery-infused Akvinta vodka and Absinthe mist.
Next up is the Distortion category which includes ¡Ay Papi! with Plata tequila, mezal, house made tamarind syrup, lime, honey and a blend of cayenne and chile; Flying Lotus, a creation by Peter Lloyd Jones and Mikey Angeles with a cedar-infused bourbon and rye blend, lemon and home made cinnamon bark syrup, finished with a candied lotus root; and the Bonita Applebum with fresh pear, Amaro Nonino, Apple Jack and lemon.
Lastly, there is the The Recovery category includes the El Inquieto, a beer-Alexander featuring tobacco bitters and Stumptown-infused El Dorado 12-year; the La Royale is a rum Manhattan with cognac, aged rum, Benedictine, Carpano Antica and a blend of bitters; and the ChocaCabana is a shaken digestif with Cynar.
