Mo-Chica‘s Picarones
Chef Ricardo Zarate’s contemporary Peruvian restaurant downtown is serving up vegetables for dessert in his picarones beignets. Sweet potato and kabocha, a type of Peruvian squash, are deep fried, dusted with sugar and served alongside a shot glass full of chancaca honey dressing. It’s light. It’s fluffy and it’s an unexpected favorite. $7; 514 West 7th St., Los Angeles, 90014

Animal‘s Simplified Bacon Chocolate Crunch Bar
Ok, we said, everything is good deep fried. Well, everything is better with bacon.
