Redwood Grille

Redwood Grille (395 Santa Monica Pl., Santa Monica, 90401), has taken over the former spot of Xino. The classic American restaurant is serving up starters like lobster tacos, grilled lemon California quail, poutine, and grilled octopus. The lobster tacos are decadent and sweet with a cream sauce that offers up a kick in the end. My favorite starter was the grilled octopus. It was cooked to perfection and was a savory light dish. Entrees include Danish baby back ribs (which fall off the bone); spinach & avocado fettuccini; steaks: bone-in-rib-eye, cowboy-cut pork chop; Fish: salmon, sea bass, ginger citrus sablefish; along with salads, sandwiches, and burgers. I had the bone-in-rib-eye and it was the best bone-in-rib-eye I have had in a while. It was juicy, cooked just the way I like and full of flavor. See their full menu here.

You can enjoy their food on their 6,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor rooftop restaurant, designed by Stephen Francis Jones of SFJones Architects (the old Spago, MB Post, Hamasaku). Overall the spot has a Ralph Lauren, Polo-esque feel. The back patio is the perfect spot to gather with friends or relax in the sun. Founders George and Spiros Bozikis of Unique Hospitality (Baton Rouge at Eaton Centre in Toronto) plan to serve lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.
