Ebanos Crossing, (200 S Hill St., Los Angeles, 90012; 213.935.8829) is a new spot for old-school drinks, catfish tacos, and brisket taquitos from the guys behind NYC’s Mayahuel and Death + Co. Named after that floating Rio Grande bridge between Mexico and Texas, this spot is completely Prohibition-themed.
You can grab a spot on their red, leather, stools at the bar under lantern lighting and order up their version of an Old Fashioned. It’s got bacon-infused bourbon, mezcal, agave and bitters. Their drinks are divided into sections named El Norte, El Sur, and Ebanos Crossing. So, try the Little Fatso with whiskey, vermouth, Campari and grapefruit; Colt Neck Cobbler made with Laird’s apple brandy, sloe gin, lemon juice and blackberries; Yesterday’s Noose with bourbon, lemon juice, green chartreuse, and Absinthe; Angel’s Flight with mezcal, Pamplemousse, Aperol, lime juice; or Bear Flag Revolt with rye whiskey, Mezcal, Cochi Torino, Gally Ristretto, Benedictine, and a dash mole bitters.
As for food, if you’re menos hmabre go for the smaller plates like chili con queso, mango shrimp, media noche sliders (braised pork, black forest ham, smoked gouda and maple mustard) or baked oysters. If you are mas hambre, go for tacos, short ribs, or paella. Whole menu here.
