Steve Ells, founder of Chipotle is about to open his next fast food spot. Welcome to the second ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen (6333 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, 90028) in the US (first in DC). The Hollywood location is opening on June 17, and word is a Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade spot and Westwood location are coming soon.
ShopHouse has the same idea as Chipotle, where you order at a counter and get your food created in an assembly line in an open kitchen. Get ready to order bowls from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore. Chose a base of jasmine, brown rice, chilled rice noodles, or salad; then add proteins like chicken satay, steak laab, pork and chicken meatballs, or organic tofu; then pick veggies; your sauce: green curry, spicy red curry or a tamarind vinaigrette; green papaya slaw or pickled veggie; and top it all off with toasted rice, crushed peanuts or crispy garlic. Whew! That’s a lot of stuff! Don’t worry, it will go fast and it won’t break the bank ($10). Open daily, 11 am-10 pm.
