Flores (2024 Sawtelle Blvd., Los Angeles, 90025), from owner Amal Flores and GMDagny Mendelsohn (Pastis NYC), is now open in the former Sawtelle Kitchen space. The dining room is wood stained with smooth marble counters, and warm lighting, and the patios have also been redone; all designed by Flores.
The kitchen, which is serving up small plates, is run by husband and wife, Angela Hernandez and Rob Lawson (Corton, Gordon Ramsay, and L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in New York, The Bazaar, Hotel Bel-Air). The pastry chef is Cesar Bermundez Cifuentes and the bar manager is Serge Milenkovic (RivaBella, Little Dom’s).
The menu includes pig cheek croquetas with a seaweed aioli; kampachi ceviche with young Thai coconut, lime and grapefruit; Texas caviar with poached egg and smoked ham hock; skate wing with capers and a hangar steak with pomme puree. Desserts by Cifuentes include strawberries and vinegar caramel; lemon posset with almond and cognac; and house-made ice creams.Open daily for dinner, 5:30-11 pm.
