Santa Monica is welcoming a new Hawaiian burger place called Pono Burger (829 Broadway, Santa Monica, 90401). It’s a free-standing shack serving up locally sourced beef (from the California foothills of Mt. Shasta), local beer/wine, and local & organic produce. Burgers are cooked over a hickory wood-fired grill and buns are baked in house.
Pono Burger’s signature dish is a third pound beef patty topped with organic lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and a house-made secret sauce atop a brioche bun. Additional toppings include avocado, grilled mushrooms, or cheese from nearby Andrew’s Cheese Shop. In addition to the burgers, you can order organic, non-GMO fries, milkshakes (made with Straus Family Creamery ice cream), lemonade and, stated before, local craft beer and wine. Whole menu here.
The clean, bright space includes the Quonset Hut, some outdoor patio tables, and a few seats inside the commissary’s main area. Open Sunday-Wednesday, 11 am-9 pm and Thursday-Saturday, 11 am-10 pm.
